Standard Studios

We build the games we want to play.

Standard Studios is a small studio of people who love getting lost in games. We love building a settlement and becoming far too attached to the people in it, raising an army, building a civilisation and conquering the world, or starting an adventure with absolutely no idea how it will end.

The games that stay with us are the ones we make our own.

The studio

We’ve spent years talking about our dream games. Now we’re making them.

There’s a particular kind of conversation that happens between people who love games. What if you could keep going after your colony left the planet? What if the creature you raised really felt like yours? What if an RPG let you try the idea in your head and then made you live with the result?

Standard Studios grew out of conversations like those. We love games that give us room to experiment, make mistakes and develop our own way of playing. Games where a plan can go spectacularly wrong and become the best part of the evening. Where a character, a place or a ridiculous little creature starts to mean something to us.

Those are the experiences we want to make. We have big ambitions for these games because we care about playing them ourselves, right down to the small details that make a world enjoyable to spend time in.

Room to make it yours

We want players to bring their own ideas. Build differently, try an unusual approach, get attached to an unlikely character. A good system should give you something interesting to do with your curiosity.

Reasons to care

A settlement becomes more interesting when you know who lives there. A decision carries more weight when you care about its consequences. We want the people and creatures in our games to earn that attachment.

Depth worth returning to

We love the feeling of knowing a game well and still discovering something new. That comes from systems that interact, choices that open different possibilities, and worlds that can keep surprising you.

How we build

Big ideas. Hands-on development. Plenty of playing.

We use AI tools throughout development, including coding, prototyping and parts of our art workflow. They help our small team explore ideas and tackle ambitious systems. We decide what we’re making, how it should feel and whether it’s good enough. That means playing, questioning our own decisions and spending time on the things that only become obvious with the game in your hands.

Imagine

Start with something we want to do as players. Work out what would make it exciting, satisfying or memorable.

Build

Get the idea into a playable form. Find out how it behaves when it meets the rest of the game.

Play

Try it properly. Follow our curiosity, push at the edges and pay attention to the moments that feel awkward, confusing or fun.

Refine

Improve the controls, the feedback, the pacing and the details. Keep working towards the experience that made us want to build it.

What drives us

  • A love of these genres
  • Strong opinions about how they should feel
  • The ambition to build something we’ll want to keep playing
